Commercial/Military Horns and Whistles

These Kahlenberg Air Horns and Electric Horns were developed to withstand the punishing use of commercial and military service. The durability of these air and electric horns has been demonstrated over decades of service on ocean-going vessels ranging from naval warships to shrimp boats. Military specifications have required extensive testing for many of these horns and the accessories supplied with them, which have proven the exceptional qualities of Kahlenberg horn design and manufacturing.

All Kahlenberg Air Horns and Electric Horns meet or exceed IMO Requirements. Certificates of Conformance to the regulations are supplied upon request and with every order.

Zero Series Air Horns
(For vessels less than 20 Meters (65 ft.) in Length)

Kahlenberg Zero Series Air Horns are the perfect choice for any vessel under 20 Meters in length. Due to their low air consumption, any of the three air horn models shown can be operated with a very small oil-less compressor system. See the accessories section for details. All three models are available in brass, chrome, or white powdercoat finish.

Air Horn Model S-330
(For vessels 20 Meters to 75 Meters (65 to 246 ft.) in Length)

The latest addition to the Kahlenberg line of air horns is the new single trumpet model S-330.  The new S-330 Air Horn has been designed to minimize air consumption, and maximize sound pressure output, while retaining the superior finish and durable construction synonymous with Kahlenberg.  Manufactured entirely of bronze, brass, and titanium, the S-330 is finished in chrome plate, TGIC white powdercoat, or custom color as specified by the customer for use in both pleasure craft and commercial vessel installations.

The S-330 is much lighter, and significantly smaller than other horns of similar output, yet is certified to IMO requirements for vessels up to 75 Meters, and can be powered by extremely small compressed air systems to reduce associated cost and space requirements on board.

Chimetone Air Horn Models D-2, D-2CVL
(For vessels 20 Meters to 75 Meters (65 to 246 ft.) in Length)

The D-2 Air Horn includes two projectors, each producing a different fundamental frequency. This unique sound has made the D-2 Air Horn the most popular air horn used on U.S. commercial vessels under 75 Meters in length. Model D-2CVL Air Horn includes a combination manual/solenoid valve, air strainer/filter, and maneuvering light.

Chimetone Air Horn Models T-1 through Q-3A
(For vessels 20 Meters to 75 Meters (65 to 246 ft.) in Length)

Also certified for use on vessels up to 75 meters in length, the models shown include additional "Chimetone" frequencies.  These additional frequencies combine to create a powerful musical chord that assists in penetrating onboard background noise.

KMJ SERIES AIR HORNS
(For vessels 20 Meters to 75 Meters (65 to 246 ft.) in Length)

KMJ (Plain, TVE, and EN Variations): For vessels less than 75 meters in length, these horns are available in single and dual tone models.  Cast in lightweight marine aluminum alloy, they feature excellent corrosion resistance that will give years of trouble-free service.  KMJ-TVE units contain enclosed heated air combination valves to protect the unit from freezing and condensation.  With KMJ-EN units, the combination manual/solenoid valve and horn sounding body are enclosed in a thermostatically controlled, heated enclosure for absolute protection in extreme arctic conditions.

KMJ-SC:  With or without heaters, our self-contained units are ideal for applications where an air horn is desired, but where an air supply is not available.  These models include an internal direct drive rotary compressor to provide an independent continuous air supply.

Model KB-30 Electric Horn
(For vessels 20 Meters to 75 Meters (65 to 246 ft.) in Length)

The Kahlenberg KB-30 is a high powered Electronic Horn/Hailing system for marine use that produces a horn signal in excess of 130 dB (1/3 Octave Band) as required for vessels up to 75 meters in length, as well as voice amplification.   In addition, the controller for the KB-30 includes automated restricted visibility signals, maneuvering codes and SOLAS General Alarm Code.  The controller is also able to provide these signals to a second air horn if desired.  Please see the technical data sheet below for additional information.

Model KB-20 Electric Horn
(For vessels 20 Meters to 75 Meters (65 to 246 ft.) in Length)

Certified for vessels under 75 meters in length, the KB-20 Electric Horn is a self-contained unit that does not require an air or steam source of any kind.  The heated, self draining driver assembly eliminates the possibility of condensation or extreme weather affecting the unit.  Operating on 24 Volts D.C., the KB-20 Electric Horn is also available with an optional A.C. power supply for use with 50 or 60 Hz electrical systems.

KM SERIES AIR HORNS
(For vessels over 75 Meters (246 ft.) in Length)

KM (Plain, DVM-H Variations): For vessels greater than 75 meters in length, Model KM Horns are designed with a horizontal diaphragm head so that moisture naturally drains away from the diaphragm seat.  KM-DVM-H units include heated diaphragm heads and heated A.C./D.C. combination valves with manual overide, for triple control redundancy in any weather conditions to -40 deg. F./C..  In addition, KM-DVM-H horns are adjustable for air pressures up to 580 p.s.i. (40 bar) without need for air line chokes or regulators of any kind.  Model KM Horns are available in frequencies from 85Hz to 250Hz in the variations shown below for both A.C. and D.C. voltages.

Model KPH-130C "Triton" and EP-90 Electric Piston Horns

(For vessels over 75 Meters (246 ft.) in Length)

These Kahlenberg "Triton" Electric Piston Horns utilize a 7.5 to 10 horsepower electric motor to drive a piston which oscillates air in a column.   With an entirely oil-less crankcase and gear case, steel gears, anti-condensation heating and self-draining cylinder assemblies, these piston horns are highly reliable ship's whistles requiring virtually no maintenance. Installation costs are minimal since no air or steam piping is required.
