Accessories

For any air whistle or air horn installation, a complete system will require a proper air source (air compressor system), an operating valve, and in the case of electrically operated valves, an electronic horn control or push button.  Considering the importance of safety at sea, we suggest incorporating a timing device, such as our model M-511C Control, to automate signaling in restricted visibility.

We also have Ship Bells available.

Please review the following chart to help identify which accessories should be used with various models:

AIR COMPRESSORS
D.C. Air Compressor Models P449-03, P449-04, P449-09, P449-10, P449-14

These D.C. Air Compressor Systems are intermittent duty, incorporate oil-less compressor pumps, and operate on either 12 or 24 Volt D.C. electrical supply.  All compressor pumps used in these systems also feature internal thermal disconnect switches to prevent the units from damage in case they are operated beyond their design limits.  P449-03 through P449-10 units are designed for use with Kahlenberg Zero Series Airhorns, while the P449-14 Air Compressor Kit may be used for Kahlenberg Air Horn Models as large as the Model D-1.  All tubing and fittings are included for typical installations.  Please see the reference chart above.

A.C. Air Compressor Models KA500, KA1000, KA2000, KA4000

Air Compressor Models KA500 through KA4000 are oil-less marine duty air compressor systems including exceptionally quiet, continuous duty pumps, automatic pressure switches, safety valves, gages, and air receivers certified by ASME and the U.S. Coast Guard. ABS Certified air receivers are also available. These compressor systems are designed to be nearly maintenance free. To reduce installation costs, all compressor units are pre-wired and already plumbed to pressure switches. Instant connect plumbing fittings and flexible air tubing are also supplied with each assembly.

OPERATING VALVES AND AIR STRAINERS

Several valves are offered for use with Kahlenberg Air Horns and Whistles.  Depending on the air requirements of the particular model horn or whistle, valves of particular orifice size should be used.  Please see the chart above for appropriate valves to use with air horns.  For Air/Steam Whistles be sure to select a valve with pipe size matching that of the whistle being used.

Electric/Manual Combination Valves

In addition to manual and electronic solenoid valves, combination of valves are offered that can be operated both electrically and manually.  Depending on the application of the sound signal, certain installations and regulatory bodies will require the manual override option on an electric solenoid valve in case of electrical system failure.  A complete line of certified "hazardous location" combination valves are also offered in addition to those shown here.

Kahlenberg manufactures several signal controllers such as model M-511C, WT-25700-C and M-485A shown at right.  These controllers automate signaling in restricted visibility for improved safety at sea.  In the case of the M-511C, both light and sound signals can be automated for restricted visibility (USCG Rule 35).  Maneuvering codes (USCG Rule 34), and SOLAS General Alarm Code are also included.  The Model WT-25700-C adds functionality for SOLAS General Alarm integration, control of multiple horn systems, and integration with sound surveillance systems on larger vessels.

The Model M-485A automates the restricted visibility code for motor and sailing vessels underway and stopped.
